LDAP (Active Directory) module

LDAP (Active Directory) module

What it does

The LDAP module lets BrynQ work with your on-premise Active Directory. BrynQ can:

  • search users, or list all users;
  • add new users;
  • modify users, or move or rename them (change their distinguished name);
  • add users to or remove users from groups.

Users are identified by a unique attribute, by default sAMAccountName.

When to use it

  • Accounts in Active Directory should be created or updated automatically from your HR system, for example for joiners, movers and leavers.
  • An interface needs user data from Active Directory.

Not for: Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD) in the cloud, which BrynQ can reach directly.

Configure it

During installation: select the LDAP module.

Afterwards: open the local admin dashboard > LDAP / Active Directory:

FieldWhat to enter
HostYour domain controller, for example ldap.company.com.
UserThe service account BrynQ uses, as a distinguished name, for example CN=svc-brynq,OU=Service,DC=company,DC=com.
PasswordThe password of that service account.
Distinguished Name (Base DN)Where BrynQ works in the directory, for example DC=company,DC=com.
Unique IdentifierThe attribute that identifies a user. Default: sAMAccountName.
OptionsUse SSL (LDAPS), if your domain controller requires it.

Click Validate and Save. The Agent tests the connection before it saves the settings. The password is stored only on the server, protected with Windows data protection.

💡 Least privilege: the rights of the service account decide what BrynQ can do in Active Directory. Give it rights only on the OUs and groups the interface needs.

Troubleshoot it
